The Tithe Maps have been reproduced by very carefully tracing the original maps to produce a master copy which can then be reprinted. The maps are not a photographic facsimile of the originals.
In the copying of the maps every care has been taken to reproduce all of the important detail of the original maps. In some cases the copies are, in fact, easier to read than the original maps.
A programme of scanning the master copies is currently under way and digital copies of all the maps should be available sometime in 2004. These will then be available via email or on CD.
The printed copies are available in black & white only. However the digital copies will be coloured to highlight dwellings, roads and other buildings as per the original maps.
